At the request of the Synod of the Presbyterian Church in Singapore, a preaching station was started at the Kuo Chuan Presbyterian Schools in 1989. Some forty members from Katong Presbyterian Church started worship services at the Kuo Chuan Presbyterian Secondary School (KCPSS).
After three years, the congregation worshipping in Bishan realised that there was a shortage of manpower in fulfilling the task before them. Ministering to the Kuo Chuan Presbyterian Secondary School (KCPSS) as well as the Kuo Chuan Presbyterian Primary School (KCPPS) and the community at Bishan require more resources.
Meanwhile, over at Jalan Kayu…. The English Service congregation of Abundant Grace Presbyterian Church was exploring means to expand its ministries.
Through the intervention and good timing of the LORD, both the Bishan and Abundant Grace congregations were brought together in the last quarter of 1991. Meetings were held to discuss and plan for the ’marriage’. This finally took place on the first Sunday of January 1992.
The first Annual Congregational Meeting was held on 9 February 1992 and two elders and ten deacons were elected. At the same time, the name Living Praise Presbyterian Church was chosen to be the name of this new church.
On 15 March 1992, during its Inaugural Service, Living Praise Presbyterian Church was officially established as a full congregation. |
